Our journey into the land of Voice over IP Telephone Service has finally reached the end of it's first chapter with a very happy ending. We spent over a year researching different providers and trying out various services and methodologies for our small business clientelle. Over 40 providers entered the race and we are proud to have chosen a winner.

We initially started our quest because our run of the mill office depot phone system just was not able to handle all of our needs and as a technology company we were aware of the many bennefits a phone system could provide to our business. In addition, VoIP is a great way to save money on your phone bill and the cost of transition is a fraction of what it would cost to get a regular phone system installed. 

Finally, after a few misfires with bad providers we were off and going with our new phone system. After a one week trial that was very easy and convincing we forwarded the phones permanently, sent off our porting orders to the provider for our current phone numbers and said good bye to Embarq forever. Our total cost of the switch over was around $1300.00 for all of the phones and our monthly bill runs at $192.00. Our average Embarq phone bill was about $350.00 per month including our interent so after adding a $59.99 per month comcast cable internet line (much much faster and so far more reliable) we averaged about a $100.00 per month savings. Our phone system will pay for itself in 13 months and the incredible feature set and digital voice clarity we receive from our VoIP phone service in incredible.

The overall flexibility has really come in handy in two outstanding ways that are worth mentioning: 1) One of our six phones actually exists at the home office of our president, Mike Frieder. This allows Mike to take early morning or evening confrence calls and meetings from home without ever looking unprofessional or even needing to get dressed. While this may seem small, the ability to bring together multiple locations seamlessly is a tremendous advantage that many area businesses are seeking that no other solution can provide without tremendous expense. 2) During our recent office move we did not have to move our phone service! That's right, because all you have to do is plug a phone in your system into the internet anywhere and you are instantly on. Going on vacation or moving? Just take a phone with you and you are still that same extension no matter where you are. Like most businesses without phones we cannot operate. Thanks to VoIP our phones were a non-issue for the move and we were alive and moving on Monday without a hitch.
